Between on-campus Mass and confession, spiritual direction, catechism, Bible studies, Exodus and Genesis 90, conferences, retreats, and regular fellowship, the Saint Benedict Institute offers Hope College students numerous opportunities for faith instruction and formation.
We are blessed to have a priest chaplain, Fr. Nick Monco, O.P., four Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) campus missionaries, and a catechist. Students, please reach out with any questions or to say hello!
Fr. Nicholas Monco, O.P.
Chaplain
Fr. Nicholas Monco, O.P. serves as the Saint Benedict Institute chaplain with a full-time ministry to the Hope College community. Born and raised in Chicago, he attended Fenwick High School, run by the Dominican Friars, and there began to consider a priestly vocation. He then earned a BA from Claremont McKenna College in California in economics and philosophy. In the end the philosophy won and he joined the Dominicans of the Province of St. Albert the Great (Central Province, USA) right after graduation and was ordained a priest in May 2013. He taught high school theology at his alma mater, Fenwick, before coming to Hope College in 2017 as the first chaplain to the Saint Benedict Institute.

Nicholas Fornorotto
FOCUS Team Director
Nicholas Fornarotto grew up in Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from Hope College in 2022 with a degree in mechanical engineering. During his time at Hope, Nicholas encountered Christ in the Eucharist through a friend. He went on to join the Catholic Church his senior year. After experiencing the love of God in the Church, he had a desire to share this love with others. With some prompting from friends, Nicholas looked into FOCUS and went on to become a missionary. He served his first year at Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and is now in his second year at Hope College. He can be reached at nicholas.fornarotto@focus.org.
Katy Genna
FOCUS Missionary
Katy Genna grew up in Boise, Idaho. She graduated from Benedictine College in the spring of 2023 with a degree in Theology and Evangelization. While in college, she had a powerful encounter with Jesus on a mission trip her junior year which made her fall in love with Jesus and mission. After that mission trip, she then pursued FOCUS and became a missionary. She served her first two years with FOCUS at Dickinson State University in North Dakota and is now in her second year at Hope College. She can be reached at katelyn.genna@focus.org.
Rachel Luke
FOCUS Missionary
Rachel Luke grew up in the suburbs of the Twin Cities, Minnesota. She graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2025 with a degree in Secondary Education in Social Studies. She was introduced to FOCUS and what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus in high school through her sister. While in college, however, she was able to more deeply experience a conversion through bible study and fellowship on campus. After working a year, she felt a renewed call to mission and to serve college students in accepting the call Jesus Christ has for us all. Patrick McCoy
FOCUS Missionary
Patrick McCoy grew up in Gonzales, Louisiana. He graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 2025 with a degree in computer science and a minor in secondary education. Patrick grew up in a Catholic household, but did not take the faith seriously until his sophomore year at Louisiana Tech, when his best friend invited him to a Thursday night Bible Study. During his junior year he got involved in a FOCUS Bible Study and discipleship, which taught him the importance of prayer and the sacraments. After really understanding the love of God in the church, he had a desire to share this love with others. After a few mission trips, retreats, and having FOCUS on campus, he looked into FOCUS and became a missionary to share the love that Christ has in him to the students at Hope College.
Stephen Price
Catechist
Stephen Price is a native of Zionsville, Indiana and a recent graduate of Hope College in Philosophy, Theology, Math, and Chinese. He had a prolonged but very powerful conversion in college from what may be described as agnostic Protestantism to the fullness of Catholic faith. He was Confirmed his junior year under the patronage of St. Albert the Great. He has been involved in teaching catechism, altar serving, and singing in the choir.
